Money-saving tips and tricks
Check before you pay.

Saving money isn't always about giving things up. Sometimes it's simply knowing a few tricks before you book, buy or pay. Here are some of our favourites.

Discount finder

Where can I find a discount for this store?

Type the name of an online store and our AI-powered helper will suggest the best places to look for a working discount code or offer.

This finder can't see live codes, so it points you to where real offers are usually found. Always check the store's terms and confirm the price drops at checkout. Don't enter any personal details.

Want an actual code? Ask an AI assistant with web search, such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot: "Find me a working coupon or discount code for [store]." Codes it finds aren't always valid, so test them at checkout.

Shopping

Never check out online without looking for a coupon code

You've found what you want. It's in your cart. You're about to hit Pay. Stop. Before you check out, ask an AI assistant: "Find me a working coupon or discount code for [website]." It takes less than a minute, and if it saves you $5, $20 or $50, that's money you would otherwise have spent.

Stop before you pay

AI-generated codes are not always valid or current. Test the code at checkout and confirm the final total actually goes down before you pay.

Leave your shopping cart alone for a day

For non-essential buys, add the item to your cart while signed in and walk away. Some retailers send a reminder email, and occasionally that includes a discount. It doesn't work with every retailer, but waiting also gives you time to decide whether you really need it.

Check for cashback before you buy

If you're buying something anyway, check whether the retailer is available through a cashback service or card offer you already use. If you're going to spend the money regardless, you may as well get some of it back.

Cashback rates, exclusions and payout conditions vary by service and retailer. Read the terms.

Travel

Booked a Royal Caribbean cruise? Check the price again

Don't assume the price you booked at is final. Royal Caribbean runs a Best Price Guarantee: if the same cruise, sail date and room type later shows a lower price on its website or call centre, you can ask for a price match. Royal Caribbean says requests can be made before final payment or within 24 hours of booking, and it may offer a fare adjustment or, depending on availability, a room upgrade.

Money-saving habit

Put a reminder in your calendar to check your cruise price every few weeks until final payment is due.

Conditions apply. Not every price drop qualifies, and eligibility, deadlines and fare types depend on Royal Caribbean's current terms. Bookings made through a travel agent are handled by that agent. Check the official page before relying on it.

Don't book flights the second you see a price you like

The cheapest advertised fare isn't always the cheapest overall. Before you book, compare:

  • The airline's own website, not just comparison sites
  • Different departure times and flexible dates
  • Nearby airports
  • Checked baggage and seat selection costs
  • Different fare types and what each includes
  • The total cost, not the headline price

Found a hotel on a booking site? Check the hotel's own website

Before you book, look up the hotel directly. You may find:

  • A different rate
  • Direct-booking promotions
  • Breakfast or parking included
  • Room upgrades or loyalty benefits

Compare the total value of what's included, not just the nightly price.

Bills and subscriptions

Hunt down subscriptions you've forgotten about

Scroll through your last two or three bank and credit card statements and list every recurring payment. Common culprits:

  • Streaming services
  • Apps and software
  • Gym memberships
  • Cloud storage
  • Free trials that rolled into paid plans

Quick maths

Cancelling one $15 a month subscription saves $180 a year.

Don't automatically accept the first price

For recurring services like insurance, internet, phone plans and gym memberships, and even hotels, it's worth asking whether a better deal is available, especially at renewal time. It won't always work, but it costs nothing to ask.

Before you pay, ask

"Is there a better deal available?"

The golden rule

Before you spend money online, spend 30 seconds looking for a way to pay less.

  1. Coupon code
  2. Cashback
  3. Price match
  4. Current promotion
  5. Cheaper alternative
  6. Better timing

You don't need every trick to work. Saving $10 here, $30 there and $100 somewhere else can add up over a year. The best trick is simply getting into the habit of checking before you pay.
