How we research
and review this site.
Money information is only useful if it is accurate. This page explains where our information comes from, how often we check it, and how advertising is kept separate from what we publish.
What this site is
Find Lost Money Australia is an independent information website. We are not a government agency, we do not hold unclaimed money, we do not search government databases on your behalf, and we cannot see the results of any search you run.
What we do is explain, in plain English, where money commonly goes missing in Australia and which official register you should search for each type. Every search link on this site points to a government or regulator run service.
How we research information
Every factual statement about a register, an eligibility rule or a claim process is written from the responsible agency's own published material. Where a rule is unclear or has changed, we say so rather than guessing.
We do not copy text from government websites. We read the source, then write our own summary in everyday language, and link back so you can verify it yourself.
We do not publish statistics, dollar figures or claim timeframes unless the responsible agency publishes them. We do not invent programs, agencies, deadlines or entitlements.
Sources we prefer
In order of preference: the agency that actually holds the money, then the federal regulator responsible for that money type, then other Australian government material.
That typically means ASIC MoneySmart, the Australian Taxation Office, the Fair Work Ombudsman, the Australian Financial Security Authority, state and territory revenue offices, state public trustees, and state rental bond authorities.
We do not treat commercial money finding services, forums or news summaries as a source of fact.
How often pages are reviewed
Guides and hub pages carry a last reviewed date and a list of the official sources checked at that review.
We aim to review every register page and major guide at least twice a year, and sooner when an agency announces a change to a register, a search tool or a claim process. Outbound official links are checked at the same time.
Corrections
If something on this site is wrong, out of date or unclear, tell us and we will fix it. Corrections that affect a factual claim are made as soon as we can verify the correct position with the responsible agency.
Email hello@findlostmoney.com.au or use the contact form. Please include the page address and what you believe is incorrect.
Advertising and how we make money
This site carries third party advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertising pays for the research and hosting so the site can stay free.
Advertisers have no input into what we publish, which registers we recommend, or the order they appear in. No agency, fund or business pays to be listed or to be described favourably.
Advertisements are always visually separate from our own content. An official government search link is never presented as an advertisement, and an advertisement is never styled to look like an official search button.
We never charge you to search, and we never take a percentage of money you claim.
Who writes this site
Content is published by Find Lost Money Australia. We do not use a named byline or claim credentials that have not been independently presented on this website. Our trust signal is the review method: each factual page identifies the responsible official sources and when its information was checked.
A review means opening the source pages, checking the destination of each search link, comparing our process summary with the agency's current instructions, and correcting or qualifying anything that cannot be confirmed.
Nothing on this site is personal financial, legal or tax advice. It is general information about where to search and how official claim processes work. For advice about your own circumstances, speak to a licensed professional.
